I was helping translate the LibertyBSD site in Chinese. I was thinking what is the standard by which Trisquel Forums use for choosing which languages apply? If for the amount of people that speak it, why Catalan and not Chinese? And if it's to appeal to certain groups, why not languages like Esperanto?

The proposed languages only depend on having somebody dedicated to translating.

I'm not webmaster of Trisquel website, but if you are refering to the
user interface, I might have a hint: User-agents (mostly web browsers)
can specify the "Accept-Language" header in their HTTP request, which is
a quality list (QList). With this you can instruct the server-side
script to present a different page for the guest or preselect
something. That quality list tells how much a given user-agent prefers a
given language over another.

I think the op may be referring to the lanuages for which there are trisquel-users forums/mailing lists. Right now there are only forums for languages that are European in origin. There should be forums for some Asian languages as well, certainly one in Chinese.
