Not sure if this is an issue for openvpn or with frootvpn , but I recently switched from ubuntu mate 14.04 and since the switch I have not been able to use my vpn service. I followed the instructions on the frootvpn website, and I get nothing but handshake failures and timeouts. For months I had no problem using the same setup and instructions on my ubuntu 14.04 setup, but now, no luck. I even thought it may have just been a problem with frootvpn, so i ran a live session of ubuntu 14.04 and attempted to connect, and it worked perfectly. So I assume there is something about the default setup of Trisquel that I am not aware of that is causing a problem. Any ideas ?

Check (for instance with the "Synaptic package manager" in the "System settings") whether those packages are installed on your system:

  • network-manager-openvpn
  • network-manager-openvpn-gnome
  • network-manager-pptp
  • network-manager-pptp-gnome
  • openvpn
  • pptp-linux

I daily use an OpenVPN (that of my university) and have those packages installed. I guess the *-gnome packages are not essential.
