Hello, everybody,
Have you heard about this computer ?
What do you think about it ? as free as it should ?
Can anyone easy update it?. And change CMOS battery with only 4-screws replacement?.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonvolatile_BIOS_memory#First-4-screws_replacement
Free for me also means free hardware and modular.
Regards.
Pedro

As can be seen in their video (1:05 - 1:25) in their crowdfunding campaign page (https://www.crowdsupply.com/purism/librem-laptop), you can physically access the hardware very easily including the CMOS. You just unscrew 12 screws from the bottom of the laptop and simply remove the whole bottom part. In this way, the Librem 15's design is absolutely superb.
Here's an older discussion on the subject
The Purism line stands for freedom in the deepest sense. The hardware isn't
100% final yet, and the bits that aren't yet free are in the process of
being made that way.

not librem
if this laptop is libre
it looks amazing!
If nothing has changed, it's about as good in the freedom dimension as Think Penguin's computers.
Freedom is certainly an ongoing process at Purism.

BUT, install a unofficial Trisquel version. I want official Trisquel preinstalled.

Thats why if I was to ever get one the first thing I would do is a clean install of Trisquel.
Considering Trisquel itself is an offshoot of Ubuntu, itself not exactly
known for being perfectly clean ... why do you trust Trisquel to begin with?

It's FSF certified, Ruben is fantastical and has deblobbed the Ubuntu system.
Running vrms leads to it saying the system is clean.
Trisquel has been evaluated by many, many people.
It may not be 100% libre however it runs coreboot, and it can run unsigned BIOS code so it's as free as you can get with this kind of hardware.
>While the BIOS is not yet free, the Librem 15 will be the first laptop ever manufactured to ship a modern Intel CPU fused to run unsigned BIOS code, allowing for a future where free software can replace the proprietary, digitally signed BIOS binaries. This marks one of the largest hurdles to a laptop that runs 100% free software and firmware.
Thank you for your answers. I will read the other discussion.
Actually, when I see the price, I wonder if it's worth.
As with pretty much any product, you may as well just wait to see reviews
of the finished product. We're open source and libre people around here,
so, clearly bleeding-edge isn't of much concern. Just be patient.
