The new release Replicant 6.0 incorporates the very needed security updates, a nicer and more modern graphical interface, and also it supports by default freedom-respecting external WiFi adapters!

What better way for us at Technoethical to celebrate the new Replicant release than with the addition to our mobile devices catalog of the Note2 N7100 phone/tablet preinstalled with Replicant:

Also, all our mobile devices now come preinstalled by default with Replicant 6.0. Each purchase also contributes with a donation to the Replicant project. :-)

Happy hacking everyone!

Just out of curiosity, would these devices work in Japan? My fiancee and I are looking at moving there next year, and I don't know if our existing phones would work there. It would be nice to have a mobile device running 100% free software to use once we get there.

Sadly, Replicant only supports GSM for now and I see that there are no GSM carriers in Japan:

Quoting this travel guide: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2223.html
"Most importantly, there is no GSM network in Japan, so GSM-only phones do not work."

Great news.
Unfortunately the Galaxy 2, GT-I9100G doesn't seem to be supported.
Does anyone know the reason and other ways to make it more secure?

GT-I9100G is not supported by Replicant because it has a different SoC (system on a chip).

GT-I9100 vs. GT-I9100G:
Chipset: Exynos 4210 Dual vs. TI OMAP 4430
GPU: Mali-400MP4 vs. PowerVR SGX540

Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 and Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100 have Exynos/Mali-400 SoCs, like GT-I9100.

Thanks a lot for your answer and the useful links.
A pity that I have this G-version.
I guess it won't be compatible in the future. :-(
