Is it just me, or is this world going mad?

First, the Free Software Foundation started endorsing PureOS, now Richard Stallman is speaking at Microsoft HQ...

The article doesn't make any sense... It is true that Microsoft brings Linux (the kernel) to Losedows, but only because Linux is licensed under GPL v2 only (can be legally tivoized, rendering GPL v2 not a free/libre license any more).

I think it's clickbait and even if it's not, he's not the Emperor of free software.

Even if he sells out, we don't need him and we can continue his legacy without his current incarnation. All we need is our free software and our principles and not to half-ass them.

From the beginning, more than 99% of computer users do not have interest in such a thing in either case.

I don't care that they don't care :D

This is our path, not theirs.

No. We can do nothing without the people. In a certain sense, you may be right though after all this is a problem for all of us. To have the common sense of the problem, or responsibility for next generation and other life is the thing that we should do soon. It would bring a piece of the sense of reality. No one can become the absolute necessity being for others.

We have a saying here: "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink."

You can tell them about software freedom if they care, but if they don't, they don't have to exercise Software Freedom.

I think there might be more of us becoming less un-free and eventually have it evolve into total freedom. For years, I've half-assed this whole software freedom thing. At first, I wanted a Windows I didn't want to pay for, then I wanted OSX without a Mac, then I wanted semi-free GNU/Linux systems to have more software not caring about application or firmware freedom. Now, I just want to be free.

I guess one pro to having the average user not care would be bloated proprietary standards would be once you get rid of them, you can do a lot more with low end hardware. I just wish I could get a GPD Win with all libre software.

If the horse realised that the water is necessary thing for her/his life, he/she would drink it voluntarily. If that did not realise it, then if that died without knowing it, that might be a responsibility of elders. So I have nothing to teach to elder people than me. Usually they do not drink it. But I teach young people. Sometimes I force them to drink, I would even torture them to drink it as a elder of them. Do you have anything to complain about it. Hey. I say! I am older than you. And sometimes I ignore them. Sometimes I would conceive a funny idea to force them to drink it. Anyway how to handle the AT field is a elders' job. So I disagree with this your opinion.

> but if they don't, they don't have to exercise Software Freedom.

That might be an excuse for the number of free software users. The base seems to be fermented and stable though. How to reverse it. It would take on the feverish excitement of revolution and it would be done in a relatively short period. But our main tactics would be ignoring them. Keep your empty kingdom where the people left. Your family deserves it.

Let the horse suffer the consequentness of the Horse's bad decision. Even without authority forcing people to stop making bad choices, bad choices still have consequentness.

If they're interested in listening, but not going all way, start off with media hoarding. Unfortunately not only are Discs are full of DRM, but they're expensive in your locality because I hear you have a "renter's economy" when it comes to media, media is dirt cheap here in the states. Anyway, at least start them off by decentralizing their media consumption. I think a good investment would be to get a few ISDB-T tuners and record everything. Though, I doubt you can get a libre-friendly ISDB-T Card and if you can't, at least contain the hardware that's doing the capture. And if that plays out, have a family Mastodon instance. At least get them used to the idea of decentralization. From that, more generalized freedom loving can evolve.

I am not sure if this relates, though. I have read a Basic Income advocate's article. He writes that he did not understand why people opposed the idea of basic income so bitterly. "No work, no dinner". Maybe they have thoughts that they could not stand other people's freedom first. That is the slaves's suffering and jealousy.
The story that caged animals do not want to live in (so-called) nature, even if people made them free might be famous. Some of them try to come back to the cage. In this case maybe they could not stand being free. So they think the slaves's suffering as a better thing than being free. Of course the suffering makes their hearts wild. They desire others to have the same suffering and try to involve in the non-free world. Cowards cannot stand being free. So they want (too) stable things. I think that these two facts are relatively important to think about the future. They cannot stand being free, so they try to involve others in the non-free world. So they love to ban. There is an interesting object in my city and it is written that "Safety is prioritised more than anything else". This is a defining characteristic of Japanese culture. We had the unique economic system so-called convoy system.
There are many pedestrians who wait the green light even if there is obviously no car, no police, and the pedestrian crossing is really short. They look at their smart phones while the red light. I do not say "ignore the traffic signal", but... I think that this relates the number of users in this world. If we dive into freedom once, we could do well somehow or other I think, though. At least it would be very better... I would raise this issue again... a fear of freedom.

From somebody who attended the talk: https://twitter.com/pedrovc/status/1169616695935172608

What is wrong with explaining to Microsoft employees the "importance of free software, GPL v3, GNU vs Linux" or in asking them to "make Github push users to better software license hygiene, make hardware manufactors to publish their hardware specs, make it easier to workaround Secure Boot"?

rms' talk may have convinced some to stop implementing malware. Some may have even decided to quit developing proprietary software.
