Im trying to install Trisquel 11.0.1, but there seem to be some issues.

1. I boot up the USB pen, press F5 and select Screen reader, but when i press enter and Trisquel boot up the screen reader is not enabled.

When Trisquel live is started i can enabled the screen reader with super + alt + S

I press super to open the main menu and search for install and found Install Trisquel 11.0.1, but when i launch it, the screen reader dosent read anything up in that window?

Is this just me, or can someone reproduce these issues?

Trisquel don't have a screen reader working on the grub boot menu, IIRC it's possible to enable it on a installed grub but not sure if possible on the LiveISO grub menu.

There is no need to enable the screen reader manually if you have selected it previously using F5, actually it may interfere with the actual reader already working (which have root permissions).

User launched screen reader (orca) can't read windows launched with "superuser" (root) permissions. That's why I earlier mention it could interfere.
So select the screen reader using F5, and then use that through the installation.

I think i got to use Triskel iso and not Trisquel, when i use the right iso file, the screen reader works, but there is some issues during the installation and things i hope can be improved and then the first startup process.

The text below is a walkthrough of the Trisquel 11.0.1-AMD64.iso:

Booting into Trisquel GRUB menu
- Could there be speech here or just a beep? (Like Debian)
- Language selection - As blind, how to select the right language? Will use english, press F5 and arrow down 3 times (Screen reader) and hit enter
- Could enabling the screen reader be more blind friendly? Suggestion: press F5 (Accessibility) and then press S (Which will choose Screen reader plus close menu, so the user now press enter to start Trisquel live up)

Booting Trisquel 11.0.1 up with english + screen reader enabled
- Speaks screen reader is on

I Press alt + F3 to foxus on desktop and 3 times arrow down and enter to start Trisquel Installation.

Screen reader speaks: "Install frame, quit push button, continue push button"

Hello!

I have done many Trisquel 11 installs with the screen reader, but never by starting the screen reader from the Grub boot menu. Wasn't aware such a thing is possible. When the live medium is running, I use 'alt+super+s', to toggle the reader on. I use 'ctrl+alt+d' to focus the desktop, and press 'enter' on "install Trisquel" icon. I have speech through the installation process. Not sure whether this makes a difference, but, I uncheck the 'encrypt' box. I leave 'lvm' on, and let the installer erase the disk. There is an 'advanced options' option, but I've not yet exercised it.

We should be able to have a prompt for when to enter your pass phrase, on startup. For machines with a pc speaker, the Grub beep should suffice. I wonder if a recorded sound file would be a better prompt?

Thanks,

Dave Hunt

>I think i got to use Triskel iso and not Trisquel, when i use the right iso file, the screen reader works,
Oh, that makes sense. Not all the desktop environments have a good accessibility support, Mate is known to have some of the best available, still it's not perfect.

> but there is some issues during the installation and things i hope can be improved and then the first startup process.

Trisquel will continue to port updates, patches and try to improve to the length of its ability but the development team is still a tiny one, and its workload prevents to take on custom development.

Maybe with more people, more time and more resources, it could become possible to do that custom development, so your support is always welcome.
Best regards.

Exactly, but i have a hope, a dream, a dream that someone has interest in improving the accessibility in Linux distros.
I've known about Trisquel for a while, but my Wi-Fi card never seems to work with it out of the box.
Some time ago i got a used cheap laptop with a bit older Wi-Fi card, which i hoped would work, but it dosent seem like Trisquel supports it yet.. but i like the lightweight in Trisquel and the that the team behind it, has focus on open source and privacy :)

I hope this topic will make more Linux users aware, and hopefully one day, blind people can use any Linux distribution :-)

Trisquel's ship sails under the Free Software movement flag.

>I hope this topic will make more Linux users aware,

Outside the fully free distros ecosystem, most users may not be aware that they are running a GNU/Linux distribution, as you point out, awareness is important to meet a goal, so let's call the system by it's complete name :)
