Do you mean guix as a package manager or as an OS?

Here was a good step by step guide by andyprough: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/installing-guix-trisquel-10-w-luakit-and-ungoogled-chromium

Espero que este te ayuda.

I also installed the Guix distro: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/trying-out-guix-distro

Be sure to read comment #14, as the graphical installer is the only way I could get it installed, and that was after partitioning the disk with Trisquel: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/trying-out-guix-distro#comment-163280

In the end I did not like it, and I wouldn't recommend using the distro unless the user had extremely advanced knowledge about how OS's work.

Well, I usually press the "power on" button to power the OS on, then "power off" to power it off. They happen to be the same button, which makes things easier to remember, no way to press the wrong button. Is there really anything else to know in terms of extremely advanced knowledge about how OS's work?

Glad you survived. All these horror stories in the Trisquel forum are getting more unsettling by the day.

On the other hand, I'm getting used to Hyperbola and enjoying it quite a lot. And my antiX-Libre respin is working well on my 64-bit and 32-bit machines and should continue into the future thanks to the main antiX dev's support. And Trisquel gets better and better. And we have GNUinos, which we did not have before. So in a way, there's more libre distro options (for someone like me) than in some of the recent years.

So my past failings with Guix as a distro are not a great loss, as I don't currently have any additional time to learn it better. When I did try to use it, there were problems with getting my regular work done that I just could not figure out, and I could not understand the discussions in their user forum because their users are advanced far beyond my understanding.

My big initial problem with Guix was that its version of Libreoffice was about 6 months out of date, and I need the latest version to do my work. Their Libreoffice version is still 3 months out of date right now. Hyperbola's version is also badly out of date (nearly 2 years out of date!!!! - shameful!!!), but I've taught myself how to compile the latest version on Hyperbola. On Guix I couldn't figure out the procedure for building newer versions of packages.

If someone does want to run Guix and they need to have the latest packages like Libreoffice, I see that Flatpak is available in its repos, so maybe that's the way to go. I do not use Flatpak, but if I was to use Guix as my daily distro, I would use Flatpak to have access to the tools I need.

I see. Well, you sound like an advanced user and probably smarter than me. I wish you well, please let us know more about your experiences with it.

The instructions for putting Guix on a USB stick are here: https://guix.gnu.org/manual/en/html_node/USB-Stick-and-DVD-Installation.html

Come back and leave a comment to let us know how it works as a live USB distro for you!

@noblob: I just noticed that the Spanish version of the Guix System doc is quite complete:
https://guix.gnu.org/manual/es/html_node/Servicios-de-escritorio.html#Servicios-de-escritorio

If I understood your last post in the other thread correctly, you may want to make sure that the extra packages you installed are linked to the proper user profile. You may have to install them again from that profile. The only thing I clearly remember from my experimentation with the Guix package manager is having had to play around with profiles: whatever is done as admin remains with admin. Do not take my work for it, though: I put Guix back on a shelf long ago never to touch it again.

Typical PTSD repetitive thoughts caused by interacting with a rogue electronic system. Are you sure you did not have any further contact with that machine? You may want to consult Ellen Ripley for recovery advice.

Do not take my word for it, though.
