"Is It Ethical to Buy Used Books and Music?" https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/14/magazine/used-books-music-ethics.html?unlocked_article_code=1.IE8.uyLr.ex19zohU3z_q

Hard to believe that this is an actual question that someone had. I'm posting this here because everyone here hates DRM and wants to own their books/music/etc.

Why? A number of people support copyright as a mean for authors to make a living. Some people argue that most authors don't actually make a living thanks to money they get from every copy of their work (like books) but without any clear explanation how they could make a living otherwise.

I support free sharing of ideas and free culture, but my answer to this question would be that I don't believe this is actually feasible in a capitalist society. To me, with the current level of development of technology, it should be possible that everyone work according to their physical and mental capacity, without stress, to create enough goods for everyone to pick what they need without strict control.
