(Trisquel 8) Problems with installing add-ons in Abrowser

In Abrowser, when I go to "Add-ons" and try to install the "Dark Backgrounds Switcher" I just get directed to this (see screenshot) and no add-on is being installed. I have tried various settings in the "Preferences" mainly in the "Privacy and Security" section like turning on and off the "Block pop-up windows" feature etc.
Has anybody else had similar struggles in regards to installing add-ons in Abrowser
Update:
I forgot the screenshot, here it is:
You can download add-ons here:
https://trisquel.info/en/browser/addons
Thanks.
"Dark Background Switcher could not be installed because it is not compatible with Abrowser 57.0.1." :/
Thanks anyway
I recommend you https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/dark-background-light-text/
It is great, especially with "my" colors (see the attached screenshot). :-p
"Add to Firefox"?
Anyway: nice though, super sweet add-on.
Do you happen to know how I can make the "new tab" site not screaming white or change the site that appears when I open a new tab?
Magic B, do you know if it would be possible to 'solarize' my FF without using an addon? I hear you can use stylish to get there but it does not work on v. 57. Another addon I've tried and it works is 'recolor' but it does not work as I would like it to in that it needs to first load the entire website and then refresh it to the desired color set, which I find extremely annoying, on many websites it does not work at all.
Any way of achieving what my eyes so desire without stylish?
FF? Solarize? I do not know what this is, but it sounds attractive

Your eyes deserve it :)
I would really love to get at least the background color and the text color, preferably the light combo, in d browser.
Nice! Is it usable on the "MATE Terminal" that I currently use in Trisquel 8? I'm fairly new to the concept of free software and tinkering with devices in this manner, I didn't quite understood how I install it.
Edit
One thing you can do anyway is use the add-on from Magic Banana, and just change the colors using the color values from Solarized:) A little down on the page you linked it seems as the developer is giving information regarding the color values. So you can manually "copy Solarized" using the add-on Magic Banana linked:)
I never solarized the mate-terminal but here is the way to go -> https://github.com/oz123/solarized-mate-terminal
sudo apt-get install git
git clone https://github.com/oz123/solarized-mate-terminal.git
cd into the folder and run the script
"git clone https://github.com/oz123/solarized-mate-terminal.git
cd into the folder and run the script"
- git clone, with that you mean clicking on the button that says "Clone or download" and then copy the link that appears?
- what is "cd"? and which folder should I "cd" it into and what script should I run? :p
$ git clone https://github.com/oz123/solarized-mate-terminal.git
Creates a copy "clone" of the repository at that URL. It will be saved in whatever directory you are currently in. When you open a new terminal you will start out in youhome directly '~', equivalent to /home/your-username.
The terminal command to move to a different directory is 'cd' (change directory). Enter the directory you created with 'git clone' with
$ cd solarised-mate-terminal
and run the script with
$ ./solarized-mate.sh
The reason you can't just type 'solarized-mate.sh' is that it will be assumed that 'solarized-mate.sh' is in your path, which you can think of as where your terminal commands are stored. The '.' in './solarized-mate.sh' means current directory. You can test this with 'cd .' after which you will be in the same directory you started. Itis also useful to know that '..' means parent directory, so 'cd ..' takes you one directory level up.
I just tried running it myself. You'll get a message saying the terminal must re restarted. Don't worry when you this. Nothing went wrong. I think it just means that you need to restart the terminal to apply the new theme. After that, you can apply the new theme to the terminal in 'Edit->Profile Preferences'->Colors. Under 'Built-in schemes' for text and background color you will now see 'Solarized Dark' and 'Solarized Light' as options. Under 'Built-in schemes' for color palatte you will see 'Solarized'.
Sidenote: Solarized-Dark rocks. I recognize it now from /r/unixporn, but hadn't known what it was called. I think I will always use it from now on. It greatly reduces the amount of light entering my eye holes without compromising readability.
I followed the steps, and even got the same "terminal must be restarted" as you got, but "Solarized" doesn't appear in the profile preferences :/
Anyway, thanks a lot! :)
Edit
I think it actually worked, but in my case it didn't end up in the "Edit>Profile Preferences>Colors".
It actually ended up in "Profiles" (see screenshot) and I had to change the profile. But interestingly, when I change profile to for example "solarized dark", the name of the profile stays the same (as my default profile). So it seems as it works like a theme, but you have to enable it through profiles... wierd...
(Also, the colors look right from before, because I manually changed the background and foreground to the solarized colors)
Sorry m8 Graven, I was in a hurry when I answered, I didn't consider your gnu freshess. Tx m8 Mason for the explanation.
>I think I will always use it from now on. It greatly reduces the amount of light entering my eye holes without compromising readability.
Exactly that, my eyes are happier since I started using it, much happier.
No problem!
It's me who should be pardoning for shooting out questions east and west like a child who wanders in to the middle of a movie.
Well, your enthusiasm excuses you a little :)

The quality of their image search results, and the interface, reminds me
of Google Images circa 2005.

I find it easier just to install redshift through the Trisquel repositories :D
http://jonls.dk/redshift/
Edit: I say "easier", but you have to manually add a config file (edit adjustment method to vidmode & change location) & install redshift-gtk because the deb package doesn't do it for you for some reason!
In only installed the "redshift" package (not "redshift-gtk") and, through "Startup Applications" in the "System Settings", added it as a startup program (writing 'redshift', in the "Command" field). It works. At least with GNOME Shell.
The Trisquel 8 I am running now already have something called "redshift" in the main menu under accessories. But unfortunately I get this message when I'm trying to open the program:
"Failed to run Redshift
Trying location provider `geoclue2'...
Unable to connect to GeoClue.
Unable to get location from provider."
sudo apt install geoclue-2.0
Makes me wonder why they have put a program in the main menu by default, but excluded another which is needed to run said program :/
How do you create the config file?
It is plain text: use a text editor.
I believe you misunderstood my question.
I was not wondering about what a config file is.
Rather I was wondering about how one "adds a config file" in this specific situation:)
Open a text editor, fill in a file and save it at ~/.config/redshift.conf.
Adjunto | Tamaño |
---|---|
redshift_conf.html_.txt | 2.2 KB |
Interesting, I'll check it out:)
The attached file is pure html code. Save it. Drop the extension (txt), rename it 'redshift_conf.html' (without quotes); then you will be able to read it in your browser. It's been taken from the corresponding Redshift page.
The forum software doesn't allow html attachments, so this is why there are shenanigans renaming stuff once in a while.
If you'd prefer a tarball, I've included one as an attachment.
It's supposed to look like this:
Adjunto | Tamaño |
---|---|
redshift_conf.html_.tar.gz | 1.08 KB |
I use the WebExtension called Stylus to apply a global Solarized theme I
found on GitHub. Unfortunately, it has no license, so I don't feel
comfortable recommending it to others.
If you find another CSS that works and has a license, send me a
screenshot of what it looks like and I will use it.
Hmmm...
Magic Banana: This is good and I have already installed it. May I ask what your theme for FF is?
It is the dark theme, which comes with Abrowser (nothing to add).
