Hello,

I would like to know if my laptop is suitable for this distribution of Linux. I've read articles and watched some videos regarding FSF and free software and it would be nice to try something different from Windows or Ubuntu.

I'm not an experienced user nor intermediate. Could You please tell me if my laptop: Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E330 (Windows 7 preinstalled, now Windows 8) will be good for this distribution? Is there something I should know about installation process, differences beetwen Trisquel and Ubuntu?

Is it possible to install Trisquel next to my Windows in case somethings go wrong :)? Currently I'm using Ubuntu 13.04 (installed on separate partition).

Best regards,
Ronald

The safest and easiest way to find out for sure is to try a Trisquel

Lenovo Thinkpads are known for coming with wifi chipsets that require
non-free firmware. Make sure you consult these resources:

If you post the result of the lspci command we can provide more
information.

Yes, just like Ubuntu.

What should I do to fix this problem? As I mentioned I'm not a pro user so a small and easy tutorial would be nice :)

Best regards,
Ronald

Hi,

You can use www.h-node.org website to find free software compatible hardware. It is a database project which aims to collect information about various kind of hardware like printers, scanners, webcams, laptop models and internal parts of laptops and desktop computers like wifi and video cards.

I didn't find your laptop from the database so it would be nice if you could help the free software community by reporting your laptop and its internal parts to h-node after you have tested your laptop with the Trisquel GNU/Linux live-cd. Don't worry, it's easy.

Welcome to the community!

The best thing to do in your situation is to get a USB G wireless adapter with the RTL8187B chipset (as others pointed out the easy solution is to go to libre.thinkpenguin.com and order one from there, it comes with support, etc) and use that to connect to the Internet. It'll 'just work' whereas most wifi cards will not.

Then you will also need a Trisquel CD. If your comfortable burning an ISO you can go to the Trisquel download page and do that. ThinkPenguin also offers CDs with installation support. It is pretty well priced for those who need help with installation.

And as a disclaimer I am the CEO & Founder of the company above too.
