Trouble with add-ons on ABrowser

I've been having a lot of trouble with installing add-ons on ABrowser in Trisquel 7. Most of what I do is browser based, so I do sudo apt-get update and upgrade almost every day, just in case there is a new version of ABrowser or some security patch to software it depends on. But recently, every time I try to install an add-on using the built-in add-on system, it fails. Searching for add-ons works as normal, clicking on an add-on takes me to its page on the Trisquel wiki. But when I click 'install' (and then 'allow' in the pop-up), nothing happens.

On a couple of occasions, I've managed to install from the Firefox add-on site, or from the add-on's homepage. But I tried installing NoScript today from the Firefox add-on site, and it told me NoScript doesn't work with this version of the browser.

Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

You are probably trying to install noscript for quantum (10.1.7.5). You need the ESR FF version of it(5.1.8.5) -> https://secure.informaction.com/download/releases/noscript-5.1.8.5.xpi

I just spun up a clean Belenos VM and was able to install the "Quantum" NoScript 10.1.8.1rc2 development build from the bottom of the page on https://noscript.net/getit just fine. Neither the way through the addon manager nor the Firefox addon website yielded any results. Please try the version above and report.

Can't install addons. They never complete. Download hangs. Must go to trisquel.info/en/browser which works. The browser addons menu just doesn't work like always.

Thank you, now I can install extensions.
Except for uMatrix, which appears to be corrupt.

Did that, searched for NoScript, clicked on the link, and clicked "install extension". Clicked "allow" on the pop-up. It tried to install and then threw an error:
"NoScript could not be installed because it is not compatible with ABrowser 58.0.2"

This seems to have worked. Will restart AB and try it out.

I've had no issues installing Noscript or any other extension. The issue has always been that Trisquel's (Abrowser's) built-in customized addons manager doesn't work.

The workaround has been for a few years to go to

https://trisquel.info/en/browser

So you said, but as I indicated in the comment you're replying to, that didn't work for me.

Then they must be separate issues.

Going off on a bit of a tangent here, but just found this link that suggests NoScript's author has ads linking to known malware from the NoScrit website, and messes with people's ad-blockers to make sure they see the ads:
https://liltinkerer.surge.sh/noscript.html

The person who gave me this link also claims NoScript is not "open source". Is this just FUD, or is NoScript going the way of AdBlock+ (which I replaced with uBlock Origin some time ago and I couldn't be happier with it).
