Trouble starting Trisquel ... will invoking legacy-bootordering help or hinder ?

My Trisquel 7 installation has begun asking me two or more times for my password during startup. Sometimes the repetition of authorization requests goes on endlessly, and I have to restart. When I look at the system log or kern.log, I see that the startup sequence seems different between successful starts (one password request) and unsuccessful starts (two or more requests for password). The logs are too wordy for me to pinpoint what it is that makes the authorization fail.

My bum (Bootup Manager) has one entry that I am tempted to check (.legacy-bootordering) but the man page says that it can only be invoked during installation or upgrades and that it is irreversible.

Am I correct in shying away from trying .legacy-bootordering to restore an orderly boot sequence ?
