If I were to use the trisquelize script on a computer with Ubuntu 18.04 while Tirsquel 9 has not been released, what would happen?

IIRC, that script replaces the Ubuntu repositories with the
corresponding Trisquel repositories. I don't think that there is a
Trisquel 9 repository yet, so this is not possible. It would be like
trying to upgrade a Trisquel 8 system to Trisquel 9 before it exists.
Not only would not be possible because the sources.list file would be changed to point to a repository that doesn't exist (and so installation of any packages would be impossible since they don't exist) the existing system would also be harmed in the process. That's because part of the Trisquelize script removes known non-free things which includes important things like the kernel. And there's no Trisquel kernel to replace it (because it doesn't exist yet.) Without a kernel to boot, the system is now borked.
davidpgil, believe us that making a freed Ubuntu isn't an easy as just "Install Ubuntu and run trisquelize.sh." If it were, new Trisquel releases would come out on the same day as Ubuntu! You have to wait until the corresponding Trisquel version is there. You can't put the cart before the horse.
Thanks. Can I use the Trisquelize script with any existing Ubunto to Trisquel version? Since I don't know any better, I have always installed Ubuntu 14.04 and run the trisquelize script from that version.
Can I install Ubuntu 16.04 and run Trisquelize to get Trisquel 8?
I'm also considering doing an ubuntu netinstall and trisquelize that instead. I'm relying on the Trisquelize script so much because my UEFI based machines seem to like the Ubuntu install better. In the past, if I have installed Trisquel straight-away, the machine won't boot.
Can I use Trisquelize with a netinstalled version of Ubuntu?

Yes, I think so. I have never used the script myself, but if I
understand correctly all it does is replace the Ubuntu repos with the
Trisquel repos, identify proprietary software on your system, and give
you the option to remove it. As long as a Trisquel replacement exists
for that Ubuntu version it should work.

If anything I would expect a netinstall to work better. The fewer
packages there are installed the fewer things there are to go wrong.
