Hi! I am a new Trisquel user so I apologize in advance if this is a silly question. One of the first programs I would like to run on Trisquel is Tor.

Problem:

a) I have tried to install it following the instructions on the Tor website.

b) When I double click on start-tor-browser and then click run (from the gui) I get the following error: "Vidalia exited abnormally. Exit code: 127"

c) When I try to run from terminal: "./start-tor-browser", I get the following error:
"
Launching Tor Browser Bundle for Linux in /home/mve/Downloads/tor-browser_en-US
./start-tor-browser: 228: ./start-tor-browser: ./App/vidalia: not found
Vidalia exited abnormally. Exit code: 127
"
-------------
Note:
/App/vidalia is a subdirectory and it does exist.

Background:

1) I added the tor repository for Ubuntu "precise" (I am using Trisquel 6.0) as follows:

# Tor Project Repository
deb http://deb.torproject.org/torproject.org precise main

2) I followed the instructions for "precise" here: https://www.torproject.org/docs/debian.html.en

3) I downloaded the GNU 64 bit Tor Browser Bundle, extracted and tried to run with the errors explained above. I had copied the Browser Bundle to /usr/local and tried running from there. I thought that might be causing the problem so I tried running from .../Downloads/ but I got the same error.

Thank you for your advice!

The start-tor-browser should work perfectly right out of the .tar.gz.

Try deleting the folder and extract the Tor Browser Bundle again. There is no need to install anything.

Thank you oralfloss,

I have downloaded the file again and it now works :) Thank you for your response. I'm not sure what happened before, my guess is I must have downloaded the 32 bit version instead of 64.
