Upgrading from Trisquel 6 to 7

Trisquel 6 is the best OS I have ever used. So, until today I had a computer running T6 without upgrading (or connecting to the Internet for the past year or so). I used it for writing and some of the other basic work I do. There was no reason to upgrade because it works fine.

I now want to see if it is possible to upgrade to 7 without doing a fresh installation. I tried sudo do-release-upgrade . But is returns a message saying there is no upgrade available. Even though the GUI update manager should indicate the availability of a new version, it too doesn't show such a notification.

It is not possible to upgrade from 6 to 7 now. Is it too late? Or what should I do to make this happen? What are the steps I should take?

Hi Anandawardhana,

I had exactly the same issue as you.

My advice would be to download Trisquel 7.0 from trisquel's official website (https://trisquel.info/en/download) or through mirror website maintained by FSF. (http://mirror.fsf.org/trisquel-images/)

You can also download Trisquel 8.0 Development Image from former link, if you want to test the latest software.

It is not possible to upgrade from 6 to 7 now, as Trisquel 6.0.1 is no more actively maintained. (No more package update (in particular security fix),and bug reports are now ignored.)

Thanks for the clarification. I got this idea to upgrade when I saw upgrading to 8 from both 6 and 7 is listed here among "to-dos" https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/flidas-release-issues
