There's an incredibly loud hum on this feed, and the speech is very quiet. Almost inaudible. I hope it doesn't record this way!

It's already over?

Yep. It was an introduction from John Sullivan and the various hackathon projects introduced themselves as well.

Now, according to the schedule at https://gnu.org/gnu30/celebration the hackathon is going on.

The next talk is from RMS. Use this to help convert the time of that talk to your local time zone:

For anyone that missed it, you can (re)watch the introduction here: http://jobbe.me/r/9466b

Another location for the file:
http://files.jxself.org/GNU30-JohnSullivan.webm

It's CC BY-ND, as per the usual FSF licensing.

Why was this in Theora instead of WebM? The quality of the Theora video codec kinda sucks.

They've actually done some really great work for Ptalarbvorm, the version 1.2.

Because it's taken directly from this camera (owned by the FSF):
http://wiki.elphel.com/index.php?title=353_in_a_nutshell

Can you be a bit more specific than "the Theora video codec kinda
sucks"? I can then relay the information in a more constructive way.

F.

I am unable to see the video in Abrowser (the tab is reloading in an infinite loop), so I am unable to tell, probably some local issues with microphone. The stream nevertheless do contain an audio track.

Holy crap, is Stallman reading the Trisquel forums? He mentions in his speech that he read today this forum thread about vPro.

Second part of your message wasn't there when I first replied;
but he didn't really mention the thread in this forum, did he?

mYself
Desconectado/a
se unió: 01/18/2012

Not straight. He said

"today I saw an article saying that the latest Intel chips have a 3G modem connection built-in to them as a backdoor"

while the thread is called "Secret" 3G Intel Chip Gives Snoops Backdoor PC Access. This shouldn't be just a coincidence since that page is created just a few days ago, and most of the articles have the "Intel vPro" mentioned in the headline. Also, I assume there are many Trisquel users on the conference, so it is also possible he previously talked with some of them.

"Holy crap, is Stallman reading the Trisquel forums?"

Probably not. He has his sources of information.

The article in question was spread all over the web. If you "copy-paste" the title to a search engine, you'll find that article reposted, or linked to, in a lot of places, including even gaming forums.

Infowars.com and it's alternative PrisonPlanet.com are the most well-known sites in the alternative media. And, are a reference not only to me, but also to a whole lot of people who like to be well informed about what's really going on.

So, whatever of important that is published there, rapidly gets known by everyone interested in the subject, in the alternative media.

Immediate release of the talk: gnu30-rms.part1.ogv, gnu30-rms.part2.ogv.

EDIT: Fixed links; they should now be playable inside Abrowser. If not, use Totem for playback.

Enjoy!

If you missed his talk here it is. It starts with http://files.jxself.org/rms-gnu30.ogv and then continues at http://files.jxself.org/rms-gnu30-1.ogv for after the stream came back (there was a problem with the streaming source during the talk.)

It's CC BY-ND as per usual for RMS's talks.

OK

I attached some more photos.

The one is with me and RMS after the bidding war. I won if it wasn't apparent in the video. I have now paid. Yes- it was in USD although they were also accepting BTC. I paid in BTC.

The other is of the speech RMS gave at the event.

Also- if nobody noticed from the first batch of photos posted above that machine is running emacs (one of the original versions from my understanding).

When I said, "What type of computer is in that picture?" I meant the old one running Emacs.

Are those old computers 100% free? Maybe we should backport Trisquel to it. :P
