Does anyone know how to get a wireless USB Adapter working with Trisquel Linux? I have a NetGear Wireless-N 300 (WN111) USB adapter, that isn't automatically detected by Trisquel. It lights up really pretty, but as far as obtaining an internet connection, that's pretty much nada.

Will I need special software/installation to get it to work, or will have to just purchase another USB adapter or an internal wireless card.

If there are Wireless USB adapters that work with Trisquel Linux (Debian) which ones work?

Thanks.

See http://www.fsf.org/resources/hw/index_html/net/wireless/index_html/cards.html

The Wireless-g version of your USB adapter (WG111) works in fully-free systems with the ath9k driver. And there are plenty of other USB adapters from that list. Amazon.com is a good place to look for them. But the WN111 may have an entirely different chipset. If your adapter lights up, it may only indicate that a USB connection is working.

I wish wireless adapter technology would become more standardized by now, like keyboards and mice are. That would help fully-free systems a lot...

Hi:
I have a similar comment / question. I am currently running Ubuntu 9.04
but I am VERY curious about Trisquel. Currently I am connecting through a
SMC wifi dongle using the ZD1211 driver. I had a fair amount of difficulty
getting online with it but here I am online, I would not like to download and
install a new distro, (I plan to dual boot it I think) and end up at ground
zero again not able to get online. Can you tell me if Trisquel uses or
recognizes the ZD1211 driver? I have been told it does but would like to know
for sure. I am also considering getting a wifi "bridge" that likely would solve
all the distro driver issues. You can reply directly to me at (please modify to
use take out the "nospam"..: ) seekerInSeattle.nospam (at) breakthru.com I would be very appreciative of any help. (This note may replicated in any other language if you like).

If no one over here happens to offer an answer you may use the live CD to test your device before installing.

You may try installing "wicd". Someone reported that some problems with the ath9k driver were solved installing that package. Here: http://trisquel.info/en/issues/ath9k-driver , perhaps it helps in some way.
