Since the new version of Abrowser, I was very dissaponted by the lack of uncompatibility of old add-ons.

Some of them are not developped anymore.

I also see that developers' add-ons for new Firefox on Mozilla's pages are not very clear about their licence.
They told their add-ons are libre but do not give any link of the source code (which is a complete contradiction).
Some of them also seems to track you.

So, this thread is a debate around the best libre add-ons you have found since the release of new Abrowser.

This is should be a first-aid of the most useful add-ons for a browser.

Thanks in advance for your contribution.

Are you referring to this?[1] If so, that was a temporary issue having to do with a signing certificate. There was nothing wrong with the addons themselves, and they should all work now that the issue has been fixed. If not, what are you referring to? I'm not aware of any other recent issues with addons.

I think that extensions are written in JavaScript, which is an interpreted language, as opposed to a compiled language where there is source/binary distinction. The xpi file you download from the Mozilla pages, when uncompressed, should contain the source code. Sometimes JavaScript code can be obfusctated, in which case it's not real source code, but it seems that Mozilla is going to stop allowing that.[2]

All of my addons that worked with the last version of Abrowser work with the current version as well. Yours should too, unless there is a recent issue that I'm unaware of. I use:

- HTTPS Everywhere https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/https-everywhere
- Invidious Redirect https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hooktube-redirect
- NoScript https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript
- uBlock Origin https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin
- Vim Vixen https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/vim-vixen

You're not using Disconnect, Random User-Agent or Self-Destructing Cookies?

> Disconnect

I hadn't heard of this one. Does it block more than UBlock Origin does?

> Random User-Agent

This one looks like something I might want to use, but I got an error when I tried to install it.

> Self-Destructing Cookies

I have Abrowser set to always use private browsing mode, so cookies get deleted at the end of each session.

Sorry, I didn't wrote a clear subject (even the title of the thread contains a fault).

I also use uBlock origin, decentraleyes and a lot of libre security tools generally adviced for a secure surf.

I can't find any add-on as good as Downthemall was for video download. It was really performant.

Viewtube can do the job sometimes and can even allow to watch blocked videos without account.

But I also wanted you to give me any ideas for other tools.

Thank you.

For YouTube videos, you can use Invidious which includes a button to download the video (or only its audio) in different formats and the "Alternate Tube Redirector" extension to redirect the connections for YouTube to http://invidio.us : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/1037769/alternate_tube_redirector-1.3-an+fx-linux.xpi

As for my favorite extension (besides the many privacy-focused ones), I recently advertised for it on this forum: https://trisquel.info/forum/how-change-theme-abrowser-or-another-free-web-browser-so-be-darker#comment-137368

@chaosmonk: try https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/1712900/random_user_agent-2.2.10-an+fx.xpi
