wxMaxima doesn't paste with keyboard (CTRL + V)

Proyecto:Trisquel mini

The version from repository of wxMaxima 13.04.2 doesn't allow for certain keyboard combinations (AltGr + 3, for instance). Ctrl + V (pasting) is not possible. This renders wxMaxima very difficult to use.

This problem may be related to wxWidgets 3.0. More information can be found at:

I was able to confirm that Ctrl+V does not work on the version that is currently in the repository. While I am not able to test AltGr + 3, it appears that installing the latest version that is available in the Ubuntu 14.10 repository seems to fix the copy and paste issue. Could you confirm that the latest version works with AltGr +3 as well?

In order to test it.

1) Remove wxmaxima

sudo apt-get remove --purge wxmaxima

2) Install the latest version from outside of the repos

wget archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/w/wxmaxima/wxmaxima_13.04.2-4_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i wxmaxima_13.04.2-4_amd64.deb

If this works for you like it did for me then it looks like we will have to wait for the next Trisquel release for this to be fixed in the repos, but downloading and installing the latest version manually seems like a reasonable temporary solution.

Indeed, CTRL and AltGr combinations work with the new version in Ubuntu's repositories, but there are still some issues: If I press HOME or END, the whole screen moves, not only the cursor. For instance, write several lines, resize the window to be smaller so that some of the last lines are not visible, go to the very first line of the file and press END: The whole display is moved. That is, the first lines are out of sight (not erased). If you then type another key, you are brought back to the line where you are supposed to be working.

There is also a recent duplicate of this bug, I think:

I would like to know how I can make sure that the packages that I download from Ubuntu are free (as in freedom). If I'm right, Trisquel is only supporting Long Term Support (LTS) releases, which means that I will be needing some upgrades like this in the upcoming years.
