hwinfo is only in Ubuntu's repo until 12.04: http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/hwinfo
Not sure why they dropped it as e.g. Debian still has it. Maybe people should be recommended to use lshw instead?

hwinfo is useful to obtain characteristics as the USB driver used in a device such as h-node explained in hwinfo --usb. lshw does not have this feature.
