Sound Settings menu link under volume tray icon does not link to Sound Preferences dialog

In Trisquel 8, when left-clicking the volume icon in the systray, a context menu pops up. The bottom menu item is "Sound Settings". Clicking on this should apparently bring up the Sound Preferences dialog box, but it brings up nothing.

Work-around - Sound Preferences dialog can be brought up from the main menu.

Should have noted - this is on the MATE Desktop Environmnent, 1.12.1.

I don't have this problem. Can you run

$ killall mate-panel
$ mate-panel

and try again and copy/paste here any errors printed to the terminal?

Trisquel 8.0 support ended in April 2021.
Please open a new issue in case it remains on the current supported release.
