Asking File Manager to open a location, but LibreOffice tries to start instead

This began to happen while I was looking for files; with many files open in eight workspaces,
I asked the File Manager to open a Documents folder, but LibreOffice started instead ...
not actually opening.
After closing all the open files and rebooting the ThinkPad T420, as soo as I asked to open
the Documents folder, LibreOffice started again. Any other folder, same effect.
Here's what dmesg | tail says:
dmesg |tail
