Brighness adjustment

Tried a lot of things to adjust the screen brighness but all in vain.
1.Tried func+brigtness control key not working.
2. Went into settings->brightness & lock. there also settings not working.
3. Installed WildGuppy to control brightness via webcam which scans the surrounding environment light and adjust screeen accordingly.
4. installed xbacklight and did xbacklight -set 30

Tried all these things but unable to change the the screen brightness.

My brightness controls work fine. Why this difference? Because we have different hardware.
