Description

As part of evacuating the Titanic: https://jxself.org/titanic.shtml

Upstream, Ubuntu has support for ppc64el, arm64, and armhf.

It would be nice to see Trisquel support these too.

Other distros are moving towards other architectures too; one example being parabola.

This is important

I agree. This is extremely important. The only FSF-endorsed distro with non-x68 support is Parabola, which is intended for advanced users. Without a beginner-friendly alternative like Trisquel, this might drive users to non-FSDG distros.

Perhaps it would make sense to start with armhf, since it is already supported upstream and would allow the EOMA68 computer card to run a more beginner-friendly FSDG distro than Parabola.

ppc64 is also supported by Ubuntu LTS versions and I consider it as important as armhf. Talos II computers are a reality right now and I know that people are purchasing it for its superior computing power.

This isn't correct. gNewSense supported/supports the MIPS based Lemote Yeeloong laptop (which has a free BIOS).

I should have said "active and ready-to-use FSF-endorsed distro." I don't count dead projects like Blag and gNewSense. The only active FSF-endorsed distro to support non-x86 is GuixSD, which is in beta.

ARM support would be a very nice thing; it's cool that Parabola supports ARM, but Trisquel is a much easier to use distro. Maybe try to beat the shipping of the Libre Tea computer cards? ;)

After ARM support is done, other architectures would be cool too. But ARM should probably be the main priority to start with, since there are several actual ARM devices we can buy and use with libre software stacks (such as the C201, Pyra, and EOMA68-A20 computer card).

> Maybe try to beat the shipping of the Libre Tea computer cards? ;)

If this is a realistic goal, I think that might even be worth prioritizing over Trisquel 9. I have a friend who is planning to place several preorders for the EOMA68 campaign. He is going with Debian or Fedora rather than deal with Parabola (he's had some bad experiences with Arch), but he would definitely choose Trisquel instead if it were an option. I'm sure there are others in the same position.

Debian is the best option for someone without sufficient experience to use Parabola, but I would prefer to be able to recommend Trisquel, as the Free Software Distribution Guidelines are stronger than Debian Social Contract.
