This is a finalization/continuation of the topic "DuckDuckGo?" which can be seen here: http://trisquel.info/en/forum/duckduckgo
5 of the 7 posters on that topic are in agreement that DuckDuckGo should be, at the very least, put in the list of search engines in "Web Browser" or made as the default search engine in this or (more likely) the next version of Trisquel. The other 2 posters have given no opinion.
The ideology is that:
*DuckDuckGo (DDG) provides more features and much better privacy than Google, the current default SE.
*DDG is built off of free/open-source software. Although we are here to promote free software only, and not "open-source", the next idea is that
*Google is no more free than DDG is (DDG actually being "more free" than Google.) There is also an agreement that the "freeness" of a search engine should not be considered as it is not SaaS (see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/who-does-that-server-really-serve.html ) and the user is not running the code locally, (see thread for a more detailed look.)
*Recently, DDG was added to the list of SEs in GNU IceCat (see http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnu.gnuzilla/1696/focus=1702) If IceCat is made the default browser (as was proposed by another topic) then this proposal may be redundant.
There is also a proposal that OpenStreetMap be put into the list of search engines. However, DDG has put this search engine into it's "!bang" list, so it may be a moot point. I bring this up anyway as the posters also seem to be in agreement on its addition.
So, I propose that DDG and/or OpenStreetMap be put into the list of search engines in Web Browser and/or be made default. Thank you.

Oops, I thought I included this:
*The creator of DDG has full intentions of becoming 100% F/OSS. ( https://duck.co/topic/facebook-page-ideas#28469000000262055 )
DDG (which I personally use) is definitely more in line with Trisquel's philosophy than the Google search engine. I agree that it should be the default search engine.
I also support adding DDG to Trisquel's list of search engines.
Notice that, in this interview RMS says: "if you use a search engine from your own computer, it is a good idea to route your queries through something like Tor so that the search engine cannot associate them with you (or even with each other)."
Well, Tor is a "resistant" tool that harms the speed of Web browsing. I believe it is not an option for Trisquel. But setting DuckDuckGo as the default Web search engine definitely is an improvement over the current choice (Google)!
Done, closing.
