SMAPI not supported; tp_smapi init failed

I've had my x200 sitting for many months after a failed upgrade attempt.
Please help me get it running again.

I am able to decrypt, but then I am met with a black screen with the following:

SMAPI not supported (ID=0x57)
tp_smapi init failed (ret=-6)
SMAPI not supported (ID=0x57)
tp_smapi init failed (ret=-6)

If you think I should fresh install, how would I go about it without a DVD drive?
