Gnash will not play Youtube videos?

Project:Trisquel

Description

Gnash is no longer playing Youtube videos. Sometimes the video box is just black. Other times it displays whatever I just displayed (So if I had a picture of a cat, it would show that or if I scroll down the page, it will show some muck of youtube's interface. Sometimes it will show the grey "Click to play" button underneath but not display the video. I've cleaned my cache but that did nothing and I've tried disabling it and re-enabling it, I've also tried disabling all add-ons and that had no effect. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Trisquel better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software at https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?group=gnash. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link). Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem. I found that removing gnash (sudo apt-get remove gnash) and then reinstalling just browser-plugin-gnash (which installs everything that is necessary) fixed it.

"Same here. Unfortunately this is out of our control. It was YouTube intentionally playing nicely with Gnash by providing Gnash users with the older, compatible, player.

They may have decided to drop such support, or done so accidentally. The most useful thing to do would be writing them an email reporting the problem.

Start from here: http://www.youtube.com/t/contact_us

Or tweet, blog, make noise about it, if you can't get in touch with them."

Marking as "won't fix". If it is out of gnash's control then it is for sure out of our control. I would keep an eye on that bug upstream but closing it here because there is nothing realistically the Trisquel project can do about it.

I've noticed that whenever a video doesn't work, it is using a https link. Simply venturing onto the http version of the page allows it to load. Is it possible that Gnash simply doesn't load anything passing through port 443?

It was not a bug, just a user misconfiguration. Upstream bug talks.
Gnash plays youtube movies fine.
