Introduction
According to Wikipedia, "Ripping is the process of copying audio or video content to a hard disk, typically from removable media. The word is used to refer to all forms of media. Despite the name, neither the media nor the data in it is damaged after extraction."
Instructions
- Insert the Audio CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive.
- By default, a dialog window should pop up saying that an Audio CD was inserted, asking you what you want to do. "Open Rhythmbox" should be the default option. Click OK.
- If not, open Rhythmbox manually (Sound & Video > Rhythmbox Music Player). Note: Your menu may not look exactly like the one in the picture.
- Your CD should appear in the left-side pane. Click on it.
- Click the "Extract" button on the toolbar near the top of the window.
- Wait for Rhythmbox to finish extracting the files. That's it! You're done!
Configuration
By default, the tracks will be saved to /home/(your username)/(artist)/(CD title) as 160 kbps Ogg Vorbis audio files. If you wish to change these settings, go to
Edit > Preferences, then select the "Music" tab. You can configure where files will be saved, the naming scheme for files, and the audio format to be used.
