The goal of this manual is to help users setup tor and connect to the tor anonymity network.
What is Tor?
Official Documentation: Tor: OverviewTor describes itself as "a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the Internet."
By using tor users can remain anonymous when using the web or bypass censorship on the Internet.
In 2010 Tor won the Free Software Foundation's Award for Projects of Social Benefit
Things to know before using tor
- Use
the Tor Browserabrowser with TorButton- Our recommendation is contrary to Tor Project's because Tor's version of firefox does not meet the requirements of the GFDL
- Don't enable or install browser plugins
- Use HTTPS versions of websites
- Don't open documents downloaded through Tor while online
- Use bridges and/or find company
Installing Tor
Tor is in the Trisquel repositories and can be installed with the following command using the terminal:sudo apt-get install tor
