Hi guys,
I recently installed Trisquel-Mini on my Acer Aspire 7739 laptop and have to say that it really works very well. So far I haven't had any issues except for one:

My laptop seems to get really hot and the fan is constantly running at a very high rate, which is quite annoying because it's pretty noisy.
I wasn't able to find any power managment options so far. I looked at some of the options available from here [1] and found the package "laptop-mode-tools". Is there any way I can configure this software from within a GUI instead of having to modify several configuration files? Is this even the right package for my needs? I'm not so sure as this seems to deal with the maximization of battery time and not with heat issues when the power adapter is plugged in.

Any help is highly appreciated. :)

P.S: Is there any wiki page concerning laptops known to work with Trisquel?

The fans starts because either the CPU or GPU (graphics) work at full
capacity and generate heat.

Optimizing the usage of CPU / GPU starts with knowing what uses them.

For the CPU, start with the htop package (and command), it will show
what is going on. Also add the CPU monitor applet to your panel to
keep an eye on any unusual CPU spikes.

If you have many browser windows open, check for animations/scripts
that run continuously.

H-node is a free software compatibility database for laptops and other hardware.
Not all the hardware is tested in Trisquel, some hardware is tested in other distros, but still should work in Trisquel.

@MagicFab: Thanks a lot for your hints. Now my systems runs at around 61 °C after removing all unnecessary processes. That should be ok, shouldn't it?

@ssdclickofdeath: Thanks for the link. I will add the laptop once I'm sure that everything works without any problems. Maybe it would even be a good idea to have an internel Trisquel database in our wiki for all known working laptops.

Finally, there is one thing, which I don't understand yet:
I installed the package linux-libre as recommended in the wiki link mentioned above. Shouldn't Trisquel include this package by default? I'm a bit confused as I thought this was the very core of this distribution.

Even if not all the parts work, you should still add it to the database so others know what parts don't work.

It does, it just isn't necessarily the newest version.

@BlinkingArrow: Ok, thanks for the clarification.

The heat issue by the way is caused by a bug with lxdm-binary, which leads to a cpu load of 100%. I opened a bug report here. [1]

Another strange error I noticed recently:
When the power adapter is not connected and my laptop is running with battery power only, my mouse stops to work after some seconds. If I reconnect it, it works again for some more seconds and then stops again. Has anyone else experienced this?

The internal mouse on my netbook freezes (only scrolling works but pointer no longer moves) when CPU usage is high.

@aloniv: Thanks for the information. Probably this bug and the other bug I mentioned above are related.

@topic: I just added this laptop to h-node [1]. I will add more information in the future as I still continue to test all components.
