Is the kfsn4-dre mainboard usable as a pc desktop? Can you get a cpu for the mainboard for a low price? Will it run with 1 cpu? Is it an atx mainboard? Is a 500w psu big enough?
Will it run x86 debian 64bit main? Can you connect a pci e x16 video card?
Does it consume a lot of power? Is the mainboard noisy?
Thank you.
Yes it is, but the setup is rather painful, as you will see if you read the whole thing:
The CPUs are rather "old", so the best are around 60€ top (couldn't find them brand new though).
Yes, mine runs with one CPU. I have some rare Xorg crashes I have to identify, but for the most part, I have enough room with one.
By ATX, I guess it is. Better check the manual for this kind of info.
About the PSU, I don't remember, better check my threads on this forum about that board.

I got an Nvidia GPU on it. I get DVI output.
I didn't check power consumption, I don't know how yet.
The mainboard in itself can't be noisy AFAIK, but the fans can definitely be. The workaround I found was (besides using a low noise CPU fan setup) to use hardware knobs that reduce the power fed to the fans, thus reducing noise (it's called a rheobus, and it should come with hardware probes that aren't too precise, but will do for temp monitoring).
You're welcome !
It's roughly twice as powerful as an X200 CPU-wise, and and the GPU is of course much better.
The noise level with my setup makes it similar, even a bit lower maybe.
And My X200 had periods when the heat was too much.
So regardless of the time and sweat it took, I'm happy with it.
Thanks.
The mainboard is 33 x 33cm. No room for it in my chassis. Do you use an atx chassis?
Is your computer librebooted?
I could not find a cheap heatsink.
It's all in the "hack and hack unholy scriptures" up there.
But quick answer: I bought a specific chassis (around 100€) because yes, it had to fit properly. But I remember someone suggesting to simply drill the missing holes in a standard chassis.
It's not librebooted since I've had troubles with it on this board, but it's corebooted without blobs.
Anyway, you'll find all the details in the links above.
Thanks. I am not going to read all the posts. https://libreboot.org/docs/install/#asus-kfsn4-dre
Did you refrain from libreboot because you were not able to make libreboot work? On libreboot's homepage it does not say about errors. It is not acceptable if people buy the hardware and then get to know libreboot cannot be installed.
I honestly don't even remember why.
Believe me, it was painful to make this work.
You'll save yourself a lot of time (and despair, and anger haha) reading from my mistakes.
You can Ctrl+f to look for keywords instead of reading it all (which I concede looks like a daunting task, even for me).
Plus that's all I have to offer, minus fetching the info myself from those notes, all for you (which would be ridiculous).
How do you get speaker sound?
Thanks.
