Nice, thanks again :)
I still have a hard time to find info on qmake, but ./configure is good enough.

SMTube use google analytics because it is a simple browser, so using it is no secure.

I am very sorry for having recommended SMTube (as it is by default). I should have known better. Thank you a_slacker_here. Your comment made me think and helped me find a solution for using this beautiful program properly.

Slacker is absolutely right! By default SMTube is not good for your privacy. His comment made me question about it being a "browser" (like firefox browser..) so I went to the smtube config folder and had a nice surprise.. I've been a great javascript enemy for a couple of years now and yet I was blindly allowing javascript in SMTube. :(

I sent a mail to Ricardo Villalba who was very honest and fast in his reply. I will paste his mail here. It includes the solution for using his beautiful application in freedom.

Hello.

Yes, SMTube uses javascript. You can turn it off in the config file
(~/.config/smtube/smtube2.ini). Set the option "javascript" (in the
"browser" section) to false. However without javascript the menus in
the page won't work.

If you turn javascript off then you also get rid of the google
analytics, since it uses javascript.

About the cookies. I've just added (version r7053) a new option for
the config file that allows to disable the cookies. Set the option
"use_cookies" to false. For previous versions you can remove the file
~/.config/smtube/cookies.ini, create an empty cookies.ini and set it
read only so that smtube won't be able to write the cookies.

Again, sorry for recommending a program that by default uses js, google analytics and stores cookies.
If you follow the above instructions you will fix smtube and everything will work great except of the menu which is useless anyway. You can search, browse, view and download the vids without any issue and without all the nonsense it ships by default.
Here a tiny guide on how to download the vids: http://blog.smplayer.info/how-to-download-videos-with-the-new-smtube/

cheers

There's a setting to not use the cookies. And my internet connection is routed through a VPN all the time so, it's fine for me. But yeah, you are right.
