The message on the title was preceded by a (not very long) number I haven't been able to remember.
This flashing irruption appeared on my desktop's screen this morning when after booting my Trisquel LiveCD I was waiting to see the Flidas desktop on it.

Promoting free software is one of my main goals but I don't feel I can do that properly when, among other things,I don't know how to provide a good explanation for a message that was issued by the FSF endorsed operating system version I mostly love.

Would you mind helping me to understand what it means?

Thank you in advance.

I have discovered
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_Display_Identification_Data
expands about EDID.
But I would like to find a simple English explanation about the subject.
Can you please help me with that?
Thank you in advance.

Just in case somebody else is in my situation and is interested in the subject I would like to let you know I will try to find a good answer to my question starting at
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=EDID+for+dummies&t=trisquel&ia=web

This doesn't rule out that anyone who wants to contribute in this thread with thoughts about the subject will be warmly welcomed.
Thank you in advance

Maybe it was something like this (from my Xorg.0.log)
[ 57.741] (II) RADEON(0): EDID (in hex):
[ 57.741] (II) RADEON(0): 00ffffffffffff0030e49f0300000000
[ 57.741] (II) RADEON(0): 00160104952313780a05f59458569228
[ 57.741] (II) RADEON(0): 1e505400000001010101010101010101
[ 57.741] (II) RADEON(0): 010101010101ce1d56f4500016303020
[ 57.741] (II) RADEON(0): 350059c21000001bdf1356f450001630
[ 57.741] (II) RADEON(0): 3020350059c21000001b000000000000
[ 57.741] (II) RADEON(0): 00000000000000000000000000000002
[ 57.741] (II) RADEON(0): 000c4cff0a3c640f131f640000000045
[ 57.741] (II) RADEON(0): Printing probed modes for output eDP

Is this on your (Pentium 4 - Asus P5G41T-M LX3 motherboard - 2GB RAM DDR3 - optical disc drive)?

So is one to assume boot process failed?
If so, you might try to boot into text only mode and get a terminal.
Had you made any changes, BIOS maybe?

I would make sure my cables are secure. PCs need to be cleaned out now and then by using blower, vacuum or usually for me a can of compresssed air.

Maybe your graphics card is dead.

@Geshmy
Dear Sir
Thank you for trying to help me with the "EDID block is all zeroes" problem.
I feel I'm in the middle of such a complex situation that reading what I also posted in another topic of this Trisquel Users forum 22h30m ago will only help you to understand a small part of the context in which these lines are being written.

In your post you wrote:

Is this on your (Pentium 4 - Asus P5G41T-M LX3 motherboard - 2GB RAM DDR3 - optical disc drive)?

My answer:
Not exactly. The problem occurred with my
(Pentium 4 - Asus P5G41T-M LX3 motherboard - 2GB RAM DDR3 - optical disc drive) but your example is an eleven line example and I only received a one line message on the black screen that remains on the the
monitor after checking and exiting the BIOS settings until it is replaced by Trisquel's desktop.
The one line flashing message only said "EDID block is all zeroes".
Preceding it, there was some short number and perhaps some symbol, it could have been [ 57.741] or even [ 57.741] (II) but I really don't remember. The ones I wrote on the previous sentence are only an example that I copied from your example.

Your question:
So is one to assume boot process failed?

My answer:
Not at all. The message irrupted for no more than 2 seconds in the empty black screen that usually follows exiting the BIOS. After that, the process (of what I believe is the loading of Trisquel Flidas on RAM) continued as usual until Trisquel Flidas' desktop was completely available on the screen.

Your question:
Had you made any changes, BIOS maybe?

My answer:
Since I bought my Asus motherboard 9 years ago (as a brand new out of the box product) I changed the default boot settings from Hard Drive to CDROM/DVD drive because I had dropped using Hard Disks 2 years before.
About 7 years ago I tried to update the BIOS but I don't know if I achieved it (I probably tried that because I had some booting problems at that time. But the booting problems only disappeared when I changed my exhausted CD/DVD drive for a new one).
In the last 3 years I have tried to use liveUSB and in those occasions I have changed my boot settings from CD/DVD to Removable Dev.

Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) for display devices to describe information about themselves e.g. "I am made by FooCorp." "My horizontal resolution is..." "I support these power saving functions..." etc. All of the information gets represented (in theory) in a standardized binary format (of ones and zeroes that have specific meaning when put into specific places.) That format was described on the Wikipedia page you linked to.

Not surpisingly, some devices may not provide all of this data or accurately (i.e., they have bugs!). In grepping through the kernel source that message "EDID block is all zeroes" is printed by drivers/gpu/drm/drm_edid.c where the kernel is checking if a "bad" EDID was received consisting of nothing but zeroes. From looking in the file I see that there are other messages that can also be printed, depending on the scenario as the kernel has learned to work around various issues. The kernel has workarounds for many hardware bugs, not just on video hardware but also CPU bugs and other hardware matters. This message seems to be printed as an advisory message only and no action seems to be needed, since you indicate that everything is still working correctly nonetheless and the message can be safely ignored.

My sincere excuses for not having answered your post before.
I was about to go into details about the causes on my user profile but finally decided not to make it public and only PM them to you if you think that not doing so endangers our friendly relation.

Thank you for your enlightening comment.

Very Interesting.
>This flashing irruption appeared on my desktop's screen this morning when after booting my Trisquel LiveCDSo
SO I would guess this message has been seen ever since Bubo started using this particular LiveCD.

Bubo,
I was wondering if you mean

irruption: [noun] an act or instance of irrupting: such as. a sudden, violent, or forcible entry : a rushing or bursting in. a sudden and violent invasion. a sudden sharp increase in the relative numbers of a natural population usually associated with favorable alteration of the environment.

or

interruption: [noun] 1. disruption, break, halt, obstacle, disturbance, hitch, intrusion, obstruction, impediment, hindrance The sudden interruption stopped her in mid-flow. 2. stoppage, stop, pause, suspension, cessation, severance, hiatus, disconnection, discontinuance interruptions in the supply of food and fuel

Interruption I would guess. Actually, I must confess, irruption is now a new word in my vocabulary.
