duckduckgo is the only search machine I know of, which
works without java script and
accepts running through tor. Do you know other search
machines which will support those properties
and be acceptable in terms of security and
privacy?
Thanks.

Wiby.me and Searx (meta search engine)

This page has some most importantly searx.

That's the javascript issue. I made a thread a while ago about click tracking URLs by search engines. Because searx depends on bing, ddg, and others, sometimes it includes those URL trackers. I guess that's why you use tor though.

I just tried to install to verify that searx works with it, but I could not get it to download because of the public key seems to be old. I think searx does work with tor. I don't think startpage will always allow you to use tor.

It does. A test search returned bing urls. Bing requires javascript
and is in terms of privacy unacceptable.

I tested startpage.com.
Apparently it works. Some of the menu
items do not work. But startpage.com returns search results.
