From the campaign page:

>To break it down (and get rid of a lot of hyphens!), the game is similar to the classic games in the Age of Empires series and is completely free to download and play.

>0 A.D. is not only completely gratis, but its codebase is freely available under the GPL and its art and music are licensed under CC BY-SA. It's free to distribute and mod. This means there is no DRM. And, above all, 0 A.D. sets an important precedent for software freedom in computer games. More on that later.

Hopefully they get the funds they need, it is truly a terrific game

What's the difference between crowdfunding and crowdsourcing? I didn't know there was one.

I think they could have planned the whole campaign much better.

A potential donators visits the website and thinks the same like me:
I would really love to help this game, but:
1. it's a flexible funding, so the money will be raised even if the campaign fails
2. The goal is extremly high, it's almost sure they won't reach it
3. What if they fail very badly and I gave some money - perhaps nothing will ever happen

Since many people have this thoughts it's like a self fulfilling prophecy.
They should have chosen a realistic goal they easily can reach for the very basic developments.

$160K is equivalent to three less than IT industry average annual salaries. You couldn't actually employ three people for a year for that amount because there'd be other costs on top. So it's peanuts.

The money goes to SPI (Software in thje Public Interest) the US registered non-profit which handles amongst others Debian's running costs (again from donations). Although I don't know US law (IANAL) laws on non-profits always mean the money has to be used responsibly for a good cause.

I live in a UK town that's in economic decline so shops charge a lot less than elsewhere to be able to sell at all. The minimum donation $5 is what I would pay for two coffee's in a cafe. Please consider donating at least that if you like 0ad. As you know libre does not mean gratis.

They're at $33 000. Is this game in the Trisquel repos?

Yes, it is. (I use Add/Remove packages to add it.)
