When clicking a mailto link using abrowser, the popup promotes gmail (see attachment).
I am using abrowser 110 on nabia.

It's not clear to me that this specific thing is actually a problem in per the FSDG but the proper place to bring it up is probably by clicking on the Issues link on the side of the website.

I've seen it before, but due to user interaction.
Could it be that you open a gmail account and got some request for it to handle mailto requests?

Please fill a bug at the gitlab instance with all the info that can help replicate the behavior.
Cheers!

I have requested an account for gitlab using the contact form.

The gitlab instance is accepting request directly[1], they go through manual approval, but still it simplifies the account creation.

I got a similar "mailto gmail" message on a fresh Abrowser profile on a new Trisquel 10 install, never visited google-anything or signed up for gmail-anything.

Trisquel 10, the one with Mate, right?

Could you share the url, web page?
Also to test a new profile you could you rename your .mozilla folder to .mozilla_ or something like that and try again the same URL.

That will give you the default behavior as it will create a brand new .mozilla folder once you launch abrowser.

The url is the same one in the original post - https://www.rapidtables.com/web/html/mailto.html#examples
I clicked on the "Send mail" link on the page.

I'm not near the machine right now, but it was a fresh installation of Trisquel 10 with Mate. I hadn't done anything with it yet or signed into any online accounts other than this forum with Abrowser.

Also, the first time I clicked the link, Trisquel opened up Icedove. I got the message about gmail after uninstalling Icedove and restarting Abrowser and clicking the link again.

Oh thanks I was going to try a live iso to test that but you saved me time. Although I do not use any google stuff like you, you can never be sure if google somehow found a way to appear in your browser.
It is the same behavior rats and cockroaches have but that is another story.

So... I got your e-mail and created an account but I wonder if there is a way to use https://gitlab.trisquel.org without JS or at least with LibreJS enabled.
I do remember that when I last used Icecat there was a plugin with a workaround for gitlab and github but I do not seem to find it.

If there is no other way I will allow non-free JavaScript in this site to submit the issue (I trust Trisquel), but I will wait a day to see if anyone has another alternative.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-program-used-open-email-links explains how to set the email client. In particular:

Application Details… will let you view information about or remove the webmail services that Firefox can use.

"Yahoo! Mail" and "Gmail" are there. The Trisquel project probably wants to remove them from the default Abrowser configuration.
