Hi there,
I was looking at adding ICEcat to my computer as it worx well with X-Marks etc..
any thoughts ??
I've found the 'Open - in new-tab' menu button alot easier to deal with.
My 2 cents.
Warmest regArds.

Please explain what problems you are having with Abrowser? Which
version of Abrowser and Trisquel are you using?
IceCat is not in the official Ubuntu repositories so we cannot support
it. The IceCat version in the PPA is 7. Abrowser is at version 9. You
will be using an older version unless you compile a newer one yourself
or find a pre-compiled package somewhere else.

If you are talking about the X-Marks sync addon, it is non-free and we
won't be able to help you with getting that to work with Abrowser
either.

What do you mean? How is it easier? Do you have screenshots for what
you are talking about?
If you want anyone to help you, you must explain what the problem is.
You asked this question in IRC too and some of us who were present
asked you to elaborate but you did not. I already pointed you to the
PPA, which is the easiest way to get IceCat on Trisquel. I even gave
you the steps to install it. More than that I cannot do. Unless you
give an actual problem you've been experiencing with Abrowser, I won't
be helping you on this issue any further.
I mean it is easier in the fact that when I right click the first option in the menu is Open in new tab as opposed to open in new window .
Which version of Abrowser were you using? On version 9.0.1, the newest one for Trisquel, when I right click on a link I have:
1. Open Link in New Tab
2. Open Link in New Window
I am quite sure this is how it has been for a long time now.
But surely this isn't reason enough to go through all the trouble of getting IceCat?
Indeed, it is only about updating Abrower to the latest version in Trisquel's repository (using, for instance, the Update Manager in the System/Administration menu).
It would also be nice to have Abrowser backported to 4.0 and 4.5 as well considering that Ubuntu will now get rapid-releases of Firefox for 10.04 and 10.10 and is already listed HERE. Could make it easier to update users to newer Abrowser with the code ready for the picking from the official repositories.
It would also be nice to have Abrowser up to date because the IceCat PPA is still stuck at version 7.01 as of today.
Beside the name and the icon, why preferring IceCat to Abrowser? It is not a rhetorical question. I really would like to understand whether there is any advantage.
I used to like to have both installed. One I would use to browse with tor the other I would have non-tor. That is kind of an odd use but it is a possible reason to have both.
You could try Torbutton to avoid installing and using two browsers in parallel: https://www.torproject.org/torbutton/
I do have tor button installed. But I find it more useful if I want to have one tor session and one non-tor session at the same time. That way I'm not constantly having to toggle the button.
Indeed, but be careful: "Now that the Tor Browser Bundle includes a patched version of Firefox, and because we don't have enough developer resources to keep up with the accelerated Firefox release schedule, the toggle model of Torbutton is no longer recommended. Users should be using Tor Browser Bundle, not installing Torbutton themselves." (from this same page)

TBB works fine, I always use it -- with few exceptions, like internet banking, to which I use Abrowser.
Is abrowser a trisquel thing? I'm also interested in hearing the answer to Magic Banana's question above.
Man, so many SSL errors on that site popping up and Firefox trying to warn about an untrusted connection.
t3g, on the untrusted connections, see http://parabolagnulinux.org/https/
I upload a pdf
------------
It is too bad the IceCat dev is running into issues with getting his releases out. I've always wondered why the PPA was two versions behind and now I know why. As for the PDF, I have used Iceweasel before on Debian Squeeze and thought it to be the same features wise as Firefox. It was also up to date as I could get it from the http://mozilla.debian.net repository. They are quick too because as of tonight, they have 10 out which means its more up to date than the Mozilla Stable PPA and official repositories which still have 9.0.1.
If the community wants to port this to Ubuntu based distros, then more power to them.
