Apertium Overload

I started the Apertium language translator to translate a sentence from spanish to english, but no translation showed up in the bottom text box, so I started System Monitor to see what Apertium was doing. I was surprised when I saw that Apertium started 100+ processes (see attached images), which is making my computer slow. I will restart after posting this message. How do I prevent this from happening?

Would it be better to contact Apertium?
Probably yes at this point since nobody seems to know here.

I don't know if your problem is the same I had. But when I use
non-English characters, it would not work.

For future reference: the command line works fine with apertium.
