Hi,

I have a librebooted Thinkpad T400 laptop computer and I can't seem to get it to boot from USB memory. I've tried to run and install a fresh OS on this computer a few times over the two years or so that I've had it. I have probably tried creating those USB drives on both Windows and Trisquel Mini over the course of that time so I think that the problem (?) might be with my computer or my actions rather than my bootable Trisquel USB memory card.

Help!

Seems like compatibility issue with the USB storage media. I tried many portable HDDs, flash disks and card readers on coreboot, and found only a small portion of such devices work with coreboot. Maybe you can invite your friends to try their USB storage devices and see which can be recognized by libreboot and then buy the proven working models?

Note: this compatibility issue was quite common when USB 3.x was initially introduced. I wanted to create a USB 3.0 live disk, but only succeeded in booting from it after a long trial and error process. Many of the USB storage media I tested weren't recognized by BIOS, or even caused the POST fail.

Oh this is frustrating!!

How about if I burn a live DVD instead? Would a USB DVD drive work more easily?

The T400 let me boot Trisquel from my USB-port CD/DVD drive. The problem really must be the flash memory itself and not the USB port.

Maybe Think Penguin or some other company would sell compatible USB memory cards once there are enough Libreboot and Coreboot computers out there to create demand.

Thanks aloniv!

I have the following difficulty with the recommended process; I'll keep trying though:

muhammed@muhammed-ThinkPad-T400:~$ lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
sda 8:0 0 149.1G 0 disk
├─sda1 8:1 0 14G 0 part /
├─sda2 8:2 0 1K 0 part
└─sda5 8:5 0 135.1G 0 part
└─sda5_crypt (dm-0) 252:0 0 135.1G 0 crypt
├─trisquel--vg-swap_1 (dm-1) 252:1 0 5.5G 0 lvm
└─trisquel--vg-home (dm-2) 252:2 0 129.5G 0 lvm /home
sdb 8:16 1 29.8G 0 disk
└─sdb1 8:17 1 29.8G 0 part /media/adel/Lexar1
sr0 11:0 1 1024M 0 rom
muhammed@muhammed-ThinkPad-T400:~$ sudo unmount /dev/sdb
[sudo] password for adel:

The command is 'umount', not 'unmount'.

Does it concern anyone else that libre computers (or at least, liberated T400s) seem sterile? I installed trisquel to my Thinkpad T400 harddrive ... by putting this harddrive in my Think Penguin laptop computer. The Think Penguin computer has a proprietary American Megatrends BIOS.
