Hi
i have installed trisquel 5.0 on my dell laptop vostro 1450. my wireless is not working.. you can understand how does it feel to use a laptop without wifi..
please help..
regards
Trisquel doesn't work with Broadcom wireless cards. The company doesn't cooperate with the free software community so there isn't any support.
There are a few cards you can get that will "just work" though. The Penguin G USB Wireless Adapter is probably the easiest to install. Just plug it into a USB port and select your access point. There are also Mini PCIe cards (half and full height) if you prefer that and know how to install one or have some one who can (any tech should be able to do it). 25% of the profits go to the Trisquel project too when you use this link: http://libre.thinkpenguin.com/

This statement is not entirely accurate, I'm currently running Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4318] (rev 02) without any dirty tricks.
lembas is correct, some Broadcom wireless cards are supported out of the box by Trisquel thanks to openFWWF.
I probably should have been a little more careful about my wording.
You are right about there being a driver in the works. I believe it is a free driver/firmware solution too.
What I should have said is Broadcom has traditionally not cooperated at all and the drivers which do exist for one chipset (?) are not recommended by the developers (yet).
If the card didn't work the reason is it isn't supported (or at least not at this time). If it were supported the driver would most likely be included in Trisquel and the card would work "out of the box".

Also check out:
for other wireless USB adaptors that work with free software. I'm partial to
the Netgear WG111v2. Really cheap (I keep a spare) and works great.

This uses a similar chipset to the one we use. It is the RTL8187L chipset. There are a few versions of the card and I'm not sure they all work. You have to be careful selecting the right card.
