Hi

I'm new to trisquel, but I want to make some changes to my browser with losing my excellent flash support (for a free plugin at least). Firstly, my spellchecker is using spanish. I think I can fix this, but this should be corrected (Where can I file a bug report?)
More importanly, I the default web browser is based off Firefox 3.0, however I would prefer a browser based off Firefox 3.5. Is there a way to upgrade the exsisting browser so as not to put flash support at risk?

Thanks

Hi bitf,

You can set the spellchecker by rightclicking in a text box, going to the language menu and choosing the language you want, you can add dictionaries from > https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:3
I am not using them and i don't know if there are license issues with them, I hope not.

As for the 3.5 version, I find "A Web Browser 3.5" in the "/usr/bin/gnome-app-install" (Add/remove software) but I didn't managed to track the package name in synaptic. I use GNU IceCat (http://www.gnu.org/software/gnuzilla/) as a 3.5 browser.

I tried installing IceCat, but the GPG key of the Launchpad PPA is giving me errors, is their another deb package to be found somewhere. I thought about install the official ubuntu firefox de-brander, but that requires first installing firefox, which in ubuntu is set up for the Microsoft Core Web fonts (or am I wrong?)

I didn't use the launchpad links, i just "installed manually", so to speak...
Download
wget http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnuzilla/3.5.3/icecat-3.5.3-x86.tar.bz2
Installation
tar -jxvf icecat-3.5.3-x86.tar.bz2
cd icecat-3.5.3-x86
sudo mkdir /opt/icecat
sudo mv * /opt/icecat

Using IceCat
/opt/icecat/icecat

Hope it helps :)

Did finally find a package on Launchpad. I would be happy to help build the list of free addons. Who do I contact?

Thanks a lot for the instructions iKonaK, I downloaded Icecat 3.5.4. but was unable to install it. Just some further questions: In case a new update to Icecat is issued what should you do to update the browser? Should yo uninstall first the previous version? Could the installation of Icecat cause instability on the system (Trisquel 3.0)?

Thanks in advance.

I initially made the instructions for the 3.5.4 but when I tested, I too was unable to run it so i changed it with the one that works.

To update, I simply delete the contents of the "/opt/icecat" and copy the new version to the empty folder, I don't know if there would be troubles if the old files are rewritten with the new ones and I'm not curious to find out :)

I haven't encountered any problems with GNU IceCat, not on Trisquel, nor when i used to use ubuntu (jaunty).

Thanks again, iKonaK, but I think I would rather try with the suggested installation method on the Gnuzilla web page -or just wait for the next Trisquel update ;). I suppose that should prevent problems. I value more stability or security than having the latest Icecat version -I guess that 3.5.3, just to make an example, does not include the latest fixes (stability or security) included in 3.5.4. Thanks anyway for your tips.
