Can't copy files to a sdcard used in a Replicant phone!

This is weird. I need to copy my encryption keys, communications log etc to my newly installed Replicant 6.0 device (Galaxy S2).

No matter what I do, I cant get those files on that sdcard.

and I discovered another strange thing. When trying to copy via Thunar, (ctrl+A and move), I was informed file by file, that some files that weren't visible - even after ctrl+H - were already there (and could not be copied).

let me change perimission via properties, but they are immediately changed back (read and write for group is reset to read only).

Any suggestions for the problem and solution?

I guess you could have a corrupted file system.

have you tried reformatting it using gnome-disks?

"let me change perimission via properties, but they are immediately changed back (read and write for group is reset to read only)."
Have you tried running your file manager as a root user?

Sorry for my imprecision: First I formatted the sdcard using gparted (I suppose this is similar to gnome-disks) and later I tried to change permissions by opening the file manager as root.

Sorry again: I am confusing two sdcards: I have one physical sdcard which should work as an external sdcard, i.e. sdcard1, and then there is the internal sdcard, i.e. sdcard0. Of course I haven't been able to externally format the sdcard0.

I don't know about your other problem (could be a spent SD card, though I can't tell from this distance), but...

SD cards usually use the FAT file system. That file system doesn't support permissions, so there's nothing to change. What "permissions" are indicated are just the system's default behavior.

As stated above in the comment to tomlukeywood, I am confusing two sdcards.

I have two issues:

1) the built-in sdcard (which probably isn't an sdcard as such but rather the flash-unit itself?) doesn't work. It is claimed by the OS to be corrupted. When trying to format it, I only get the option of formatting it as an external sdcard. That's weird in it self but double as weird since if I format the external (i.e. removable) sdcard, I get two options: Formating as internal or external sdcard repectively.

2) The physical and removable sdcard can be formatted as internal or external. I first formatted it using Gparted as FAT32. and it worked fine. Since I don't have the internal sdcard working, I formatted the removable sdcard as an internal sdcard, using the program built-in in the OS. The formatting works but afterwards I can not copy files to it. This goes whether I try via usb cable or insert the sdcard into my computer.

I don't know what it means to format an SD card as "internal" or "external"; that distinction doesn't make sense to me. But what it sounds like to me is that your NAND (internal storage) is burnt out. All flash memory degrades over time (faster the more you write to it) and eventually just becomes completely useless. (To me a little more specific, you usually can read at least some of it, but cannot successfully write to it or reformat it.)

So the deal is, either you'll have to figure out a way to use just the microSD card, or you'll have to replace the phone (since replacing just the NAND is typically not realistic). Since this is apparently a phone that supports Replicant, I would suggest trying really hard to do the former.

I think that on all my (androidish) phones there have been an sdcard0 which (apparently) is the part of the internal memory that is not system memory (if that description makes sense)

I DO have internal memory, just not 'defined' as or named (?) sdcard0. The latter seems to be crucial for e.g. the camera and import of archived (end encrypted) messages from the Silence app from before updating.

I've the same issue as you in my S3. You can only copy stuff to folders, but not the root of the sdcard
