Can't update Trisquel 9.0.2 64 bit Etiona
- Vous devez vous identifier ou créer un compte pour écrire des commentaires
Hi, I'm trying to update using system/admin/software updater and even though the ethernet cable is plugged in and it shows as online, the updater won't work, nor will any browsers or synaptic.
this happens on my x230 and x200 (thinkpads)
They both run 9.0.2 64 bit Etiona
Kernel Linux 4.15.0-175-generic x86_64
MATE 1.20.1
Pop ups saying;
'Failed to download repository information'
another said 'Could not download repository indexes'
Any help appreciated.
Perhaps the mirror you are trying to use is not working, so you could change (in "Software and updates").
If that does not solve the issue, try "sudo apt update" and "sudo apt ugrade" in a terminal and copy the output here.
Hi, The mirrors in 'software an updates' all failed so after entering the terminal commands;
user@user-ThinkPad-X200:~/Desktop$ sudo apt update

user@user-ThinkPad-X200:~/Desktop$
Try to execute in a terminal (and stop with Ctrl+C):
$ ping trisquel.info
If some "64 bytes from www.trisquel.info (5.196.53.144)" are output, then your Internet connection, including name resolution, is apparently working. Otherwise, try:
$ ping 5.196.53.144
If some "64 bytes from 5.196.53.144" are output, the problem deals with DNS. Otherwise, are you sure the hardware is properly working (you can test from a live system)?
Thanks Magic Banana, does this mean it is DNS (domain name server/system ) ? ( using x201 with win 7 to get online and message here).

Your DNS works for ping, although it does not for APT:
Could not resolve ‘archive.trisquel.info’
The weird characters could indicate /etc/apt/sources.list was written with a wrong charset. Nevertheless, you wrote that "the updater won't work, nor will any browsers" and, in your last post, that you need to use a different operating system "to get online". As a consequence, the problem is not specific to APT. I have no idea why DNS would only work for ping (and other programs?).
They both work online again ! All I did was open Pale Moon browser/preferences/Network/connection/Settings and changed from 'Use system proxy settings' to 'Auto-detect proxy settings for this network' and refreshed. Did similar for Abrowser and currently I'm online with X200 & Abrowser.

Although I just had to redo the setup in Abrowser due to it forgetting when a new tab was opened.
And the updater works again.
