Anything that Firefox/IceCat can incorporate into their code to increase security is very welcome :)

The licenses must be carefully reviewed in order to proceed.

Even if it was free as in freedom (we still don't know), another repository for free as in freedom plugins needs to be made and modifications to the browser's source code are needed before including it in trisquel's repos.

i quote from the github license file:

"/ * Redistributions of source code must retain the above copyright
// notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer.
// * Redistributions in binary form must reproduce the above
// copyright notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer
// in the documentation and/or other materials provided with the
// distribution.
// * Neither the name of Google Inc. nor the names of its
// contributors may be used to endorse or promote products derived from
// this software without specific prior written permission.
//"

looks like a free software license;
permissive though.

Chromium uses 3-clause BSD indeed. Some files appear to lack license headers though (according to Wikipedia, they're called “unlicensed files”).

Wow, looks like ubuntu includes chromium in their universe repo ["community maintained open source software"]. Yet if we look at the copyright file [1] for the latest release, there is plenty of files with License: UNKNOWN and files supposedly under some variant of BSD with Copyright: UNKNOWN. (All BSD licenses require the name of the copyright holder to be preserved.)

Looks pretty messy to me.
