I can't seem to find GNOME's "desktop sharing" options (for Vino) in my installation of Trisquel, which includes GNOME Shell. It's not just disabled from the menu; the launcher just isn't there, not even hidden. Does anyone else have this problem?

Of course, I could use a different VNC server than Vino, but I find the integration with GNOME to be convenient.

To clarify: I have the vino package installed.

Just test to see if Vino works in a terminal, and if you have a
special option that must be set in the terminal, it might be
useful to also take note of such option (well, this is needed
only if we assume that the program itself doesn't save the
options in a configuration file)

Then, use "Alacarte" (I don't know if it's written this way),
which can also be accessed perhaps by right clicking on the
start menu icon and clicking on Edit, I guess. (Sorry for my
uselessness, I'm not a GNOME user anymore).

Respectfully, Adonay.
Have a nice day.

Apparently, the command is vino-preferences (found this out by doing a search in /usr/bin for "vino"... don't know why I didn't think to do this before). This seems to work.

Is the icon missing for anyone else? If it is, I'll report a bug.

hi onpon4

I have the same issue:
i installed with Synaptic:
it shows in add/remove & Synaptic package manager as installed

$ dpkg --get-selections
shows vino

In /usr/bin it's not visible

On my other pc i have installed GnewSense Ucclia Alpha1
and it works out of the box.

GnewSense Ucclia.1 Alpha Gnome(Fallback)
Applications > System tools > Preferences > Desktop Sharing

The GnewSense version is 3-4.2-1+b1 VNC Server for Gnome
whereas Trisquel's is 3.8.1-Ouboutu.1+7Otr

In GnewSense Ucclia Alpha.1

XFCE this time:
Vino is only accessible via usr/bin

So on Gnewsense either it works out of the box in Gnome(Fallback)
or via usr/bin in XFCE
The GnewSense version is 3-4.2-1+b1 VNC Server for Gnome

I'm trying to help someone who is actually running Xubnutu 14.04LTS and the issue over there is the same
ie:Vino doesn't appear anywhere nor in usr/bin

3.8.1-Ouboutu1
whereas Trisquel's is 3.8.1-Ouboutu.1+7Otr
http://packages.trisquel.info/belenos/gnome/vino
i have http://packages.trisquel.info/belenos/gvfs installed
