Welcome to the forums!

There is no firefox in the Trisquel's repos because firefox suggest's some non-free add-ons to the user. There might be some other small freedom issues too if I recall but I'm not sure. Anyway, we have abrowser (which is basically firefox with the freedom issues solved).

It would be nice if we could have the latest version of some really important applications like abrowser in the repos.

I've noticed lately that I am unable to browse some sites (my bank for instance) correctly with abrowser (v16), although it used to work fine, and it works perfectly fine with Midori or GNU IceCat (v17). I'll try to empty my cache and see if things change, but if it doesn't, then it would be another argument in favor of having an up-to-date default browser.

I'd probably complain to the bank. Chance are they don't have any control over it... but it can't hurt. The software is likely written by a company that is then deployed by various banks. Firefox 10 is supported on at least some operating systems. There is no technical / security justification for telling users there browser is no longer supported or banning them from using these browsers.

OK nevermind, I think it's the latest version of Linterna Magica that's the cause of the weird behavior with links that I was experiencing.

shig, it won't happen anytime soon and if it does happen like 2 months from now, it will only be for the latest Trisquel and not for the older ones. Its just how Ruben works.

Abrowser, the version that is based on Firefox that the Trisquel team modifies, is still horribly outdated and stuck at version 14.

I ended up installing Firefox 18 from the Ubuntu repos becuase I was sick of waiting. For those that want to use Chromium (the free software verison of Chrome) for Trisquel 4 and up, you can grab a repo here: https://launchpad.net/~cmiller/+archive/chromium-browser-stable-daily

I wonder if changing the user agent string in abrowser would make it
work on sites that expect firefox?

It probably would and is a better solution from a free software perspective than installing Firefox. I think for most people I'd suggest just sticking with abrowser and modifying the string. There is even a plug-in to do this too.

Not only one, there are many: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/search/?q=user%20agent :-) The first of them, "User Agent Switcher", is GPLv3'd: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/
