Flash drive breaks file manager by dropping off USB port

In the midst of an hour-long file transfer, my Sandisk flash drive entered standby mode,
disconnected from its USB port, and changed the /dev identities of the active partitions in
/media/user, thereby breaking the file transfer. Fortunately, the error report listed all
the missing files and directories, and I was able to complete the transfer.

The internet tells me that in another operating system one can update the drive's drivers
using the "Device Manager" which may or may not be possible in Trisquel_10.

Is it possible to defeat this behavior analogously to the workaround that prevents my
Seagate 4TB HDD from entering sleep mode after fifteen minutes of inactivity which also
breaks its USB connection, as in this discussion:

The answer is yes; the script ran overnight and kept the flash drive mounted and ready.
