I thought I would start a topic about employment at companies which respect your freedom. Mainly because I'm looking to fill a part-time position as we have recenelty had an associate move on to bigger and better things.
What has your experience been like finding work at a company that respects your freedom?
Tips, etc. be it your looking to employee or hire.
... and here is a quick job description of the position I'm looking to fill:
Technical assistant
Main responsibilities include:
1. building systems
2. supporting customer on gnu/linux (primarily-)
3. troubleshooting / proving technical support
4. packaging/processing orders
5. assist in documenting / web site maintenance (development interest/skill/experience desirable although above and beyond the expectations for this position- think raise)
6. shipping
7. hacking (likely above and beyond needed experience- bonus if good; think raise)
8. work independently
9. fix computers
I'm looking to start the person at 10-15 hours a week although if we can find a sufficiently technical and able person who can actually manage all these things, work independently, etc. there is a lot more work I'd like to pass off (and thus more hours). I'd be looking to start them at the going rate for an "experienced" technician (a year working any kind of tech job should do). Around here this is $8-9 USD hour. The job is in Flemington, NJ (Hunterdon County, NJ, USA).
This could lead to something more significant. My main focus is on expanding the business, sourcing, building relationships, coordinating, etc. The demand for products is increasing rapidly although I need to be conscious of a whole lot of costs / actual work available. There are definitely weeks I can use someone for 30+ hours.
