After reading and watching videos about Freeplane, I tried to install it through Synaptic, but not all packages could be marked for installation. I got this message:
The following packages have unresolvable dependencies. Make sure that all required repositories are added and enabled in the preferences.
freeplane:
Depends: default-jre but it is not going to be installed or
java7-runtime

Recommends: java-wrappers but it is not going to be installed
So it seems I need to add one or more repositories.
But how do I find out which repository/-ies?
And should I be careful to add it/them?
I was not able to install freeplane either because it depends on libfop-java which is a virtual package. But there are similar applications called vym and semantik in the flidas/main repositories.
Yes, when installing via terminal, it gives this output:
~$ sudo apt install freeplane
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
freeplane : Depends: libfop-java but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
What does it mean that it is a virtual package?
I will look into vym and semantik, thanks.
It means what it says: the freeplane package depends on the libfop-java package but the latter is not installable. It is indeed missing from the repository. I have no idea why: it is in the universe section of the Ubuntu repository and looks free.
TRied to install Freeplane today as well but the package 'libfob-java' is not installable
