Hello everyone! I've installed GNU Emacs 23 and now it opens sh files which used to be opened by gedit or executed. Can someone please tell me how to switch it back the way it used to be? I've tried to right click sh files and open with gnome-terminal but nothing happens, although the sh file is marked as executable.

Many thanx!

In Nautilus (the file browser), right click on a Shell script and choose "Properties". In the "Open with" tab, you can select the text editor of your choice (gedit). The other applications that are listed (but not selected) can be executed on any Shell script by right-clicking on it and choosing the "Open with..." entry. This works for any (mime) type of file and is worth knowing.

GNU Emacs just made headlines for violating the GPL:

Hopefully a fix will arrive soon to sort it out.

It is worth writing that this violation was, of course, involuntary.
